Cocktail Time! Iceberg Vodka Introduces New Flavours

April 21, 2014

When I think of vodka, brands from the “vodka belt” (Russia, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia etc.) immediately come to mind. But some of the purest vodka in the world comes from my own backyard! Made from chunks of icebergs harvested near Newfoundland (don’t worry, they’ve naturally separated from their mother iceberg), Iceberg Vodka is 100% Canadian owned and produced. And it gets better: the multi-award winning brand just released a new addition to their family: Iceberg Chocolate Mint. I host a lot of soirées and my friends just so happen to be chocoholics so I was really excited to try out their Chocolate Mint Martini recipe.

But before I busted out the martini shaker, I had to try the vodka on it’s own. In my opinion, the best way to taste vodka is after it’s been chilled in the freezer (I don’t like adding ice). It had a nice, thick consistency when I poured it from the frosted bottle. And the taste? The rich, velvety chocolate flavour creates a creamy mouthfeel which is followed by a fresh peppermint finish. Although I’m usually not a fan of flavoured vodka, this one is expertly balanced and won me over. It’s smooth and not too sweet. Added bonus: it’s a budget-friendly spirit at $25.95!

Iceberg is the only vodka with a cold sensitive label; a Canadian maple leaf is revealed when chilled!

Ok, now it’s cocktail time. You only need four ingredients to make the Chocolate Mint Martini:

  • 1.5 oz Iceberg Chocolate Mint
  • 1/2 oz coffee liqueur (I used Kahlúa)
  • 1/2 oz Irish cream liqueur (I used Baileys)
  • 1 oz light cream
  • Optional: mint for garnish

Just pour all the ingredients into a shaker filled with ice and…

Shake, shake, shake!

And voila, dessert in a glass…

For a cream-based martini, I thought it was surprisingly light! I could really taste the chocolate and mint come through. And as a little experiment, I put some of the mix in the freezer, stirred it intermittently and served it as a frozen cocktail. Delish! I can’t wait to try the other recipes this summer. Oh, and Iceberg has also released two additional flavours – Cucumber and Crème Brûlée – which are currently available in Newfoundland, Alberta and parts of the US. Can’t wait to get my curious paws on those!

A huge thanks to Iceberg Vodka for sending me a bottle of Iceberg Chocolate Mint to test out. As always, all reviews and opinions are entirely my own.

LOL that’s what I said too – a marriage of three things I love: vodka, chocolate and mint!
