One For Him, One For Me: His & Hers JORD Watches

September 14, 2015

We all have our obsessions. For my hubster, it’s an undying and ever-growing love for watches. I’m not sure where the fascination stems from, but his face just lights up when he spots a beautiful watch (he was like a kid in a candy store during our travels to Switzerland). Although our personal styles are quite different, we both agree that watches should be statement pieces — which means the more unique they are, the better. That’s where JORD comes in. Based in St. Louis, the company designs and hand-crafts wood timepieces that command attention. Yup, every time we adorn our wrists with these beauts, we receive a flood of compliments…

Jord Wood Watch, Dover Series, Fieldcrest Series

Made from 100% natural and sustainably-sourced wood from around the globe, each timepiece is incredibly unique. In fact – thanks to mother nature –  no two watches will ever be exactly alike. The hard part? Deciding which one to order! After a long deliberation (lets be honest: I wanted more than a few of their creations), I decided to stick to my roots and went for a maple watch. Oh, Canada…

Fieldcrest Series Maple Wood Watch ($120)

Made from the outer rings (known as the sapwood) of hard maple from Northeastern North America, the watch is very minimalistic and versatile. I really love the grain of the wood, but more importantly: I am obsessed with how it feels. It is SO soft and light. And it’s also perfectly fitted (they customize the size for your wrist). Great design always brings a smile to my face, so when I spotted the hidden clasp at the back, I was a happy woman…

Hubster went with a more intricate and exotic piece…

Dover Series Zebrawood & Dark Sandalwood Watch ($295)

This premium timepiece is all about the details: the dark sandalwood (from Mozambique) and luxurious zebrawood (from Congo) are brilliantly combined to create a visually striking watch which is only made more interesting by its exposed gears. It is stunning and definitely a conversation piece. It’s also automatic so as long as you keep moving, it will self-wind – no batteries required! Oh, and the face of the watch is made with sapphire glass (second only to diamond as the hardest and most scratch-resistant material) so you don’t need to worry about damaging it during your travels/adventures…

One thing to note though: because these watches are made from wood, they require special attention. JORD hand-finishes and pretreats their masterpieces with tung oils, but you’ll need to use lemon or orange oil extract to clean off the dirt and oil. You should also regularly apply beeswax/butcher block oil/walnut oil to protect the wood and lock in the moisture so it doesn’t dry or crack. Oh, and although their watches are “splash proof” they are absolutely NOT water resistant so don’t fully submerge them! What they are is exceptionally beautiful and highly coveted: a unique timepiece for him or for her…

Thanks to JORD watches for sending over these beautiful pieces. As always, reviews and opinions are my own.
