There’s something about spending time outdoors that kicks my appetite into full gear. I’d like to think it’s due to all the calories burned as I bounce around from activity to activity, but in reality it’s probably the fact that I use food as a motivator to get moving…
Yup, nothing makes me fly around a skating trail or down a hill faster than knowing I have the perfect après ski spot lined up. So it should come as no surprise that whenever I head to Visit Grey, I spend a considerable amount of time feasting at Blue Mountain restaurants. As with all destinations, there are spots that I dream of returning to and others that miss the mark so I thought I’d share my intel. Here’s where I think you should eat when you head to Blue Mountain…
Blue Mountain Restaurants & Other Tasty Stops
1. Royal Majesty Espresso Bar – Do not leave the village without trying the S’mores Latte at this bakery. It’s definitely one of the best speciality lattes I’ve ever tasted. Each component is carefully layered in — from the graham crackers to the perfectly-toasted marshmallows. Bonus: it tastes even better than it looks and they serve up some amazing grilled cheese sandwiches too!
2. Chuck Burger – For a quick bite between runs, head to this much-loved burger joint that prides itself on using beef that is hormone-free, antibiotic-free and organic. Their patties are handcrafted, charbroiled and topped with some unique ingredients…
3. Oliver & Bonacini – I’ve repeatedly dined at almost all of the restaurants in the village and the one that’s most consistent when it comes to service and food quality is O&B. That being said, it does come with a heftier price tag. Portions are generous, the staff is knowledgeable and the ambiance is nice (bright and airy during the day, dimly lit at night). Head here for brunch with the girls or a romantic dinner.
4. BeaverTails – Oh I remember the days when these sweet treats could only be found in our nation’s capital. Thankfully the Canadian chain has rapidly expanded since 1978 and now has location in the heart of the village. The pastry is hand-stretched, served piping hot and really hits the spot on a cold day.
5. Northwinds Brewery – I was not at all surprised when I heard that this brewpub opened a second location in Collingwood. Having had the pleasure of dining at their first location several times, I knew an expansion was inevitable. That’s because they brew some damn good beer! The microbrewery is staffed with beer lovers, serves up small batch brews in a variety of different styles and offers diners a solid menu featuring local ingredients.
Where To Eat Around Blue Mountain Village
6. Bruce Wine Bar (15 min drive from Blue Mountain) – Run, don’t walk to this resto for their Maple Chili Brussels Sprouts. The combination of pork belly, parsley coriander chimichurri and pickled chilies is pure genius. Their wood-fired pizzas are also drool-worthy. Chef Shaun is dedicated to using the freshest seasonal produce and organic ingredients from local farmers so you’ll get a true taste of the region here.
7. The Cheese Gallery (15 min drive from Blue Mountain) – I’m practically addicted to cheese so my eyes lit up the first time I spotted this gem in Thornbury. I walked in expecting a cheese counter and was blown away by the vibe inside. Not only is the owner incredibly knowledgeable about cheese, but she’s managed to create a beautifully warm and welcoming space — the kind you never want to leave. This is a great spot for a leisurely lunch with the gals — champagne and cheese in hand!
8. HaiSai (25 min drive from Blue Mountain) – If you’re like me and will go anywhere for good food, then put this resto on your must-eat list. I’ve never met a team more dedicated to the quality of ingredients than the Stadtländers and their staff. They grow their own vegetables, raise their own livestock, make their own breads/spreads/maple syrup and they even forage and keep their own bees! Their commitment to good food is unprecedented and something you’ll taste in every bite when you visit HaiSai or Eigensinn Farm. Put both on your culinary bucket list. Your stomach will thank you.
A huge thanks to Grey County for hosting us on this press trip. If you love any Blue Mountain restaurants that I haven’t listed, please comment with your recos and I’ll be sure to dine there! Check out this Blue Mountain weekend itinerary and girls’ spa getaway post for some travel inspo.

February 18, 2018 at 4:06 amWe didn’t know where Blue Mountain was, excuse our ignorance. But then we saw the Poutine signs (which we’ve never tried) in the photographs so it must be Canada. It looks a very nice town and we are actually off to Ontario later in the year, hopefully, we will have time to visit on the way to Ottawa.

February 18, 2018 at 2:01 pmI wanted to know where Blue Mountain is. I found out it is an Alpine resort in Ontario. Poutine, which I love, was a hint. Was in Ontario in 2012 but didn’t get to this place.

February 18, 2018 at 7:35 pmThanks for the tasty travels through Blue Mountain eateries. I would definitely head to Royal Majesty Espresso Bar. We always search out great coffee spots. I would then head to the Cheese Gallery. It sounded yummy. As a good Canadian, I would definitely have to finish with the Beavertails!

February 19, 2018 at 2:34 amI haven’t heard of Blue Mountain either but then Canada is huge and for those not living anywhere close by, I guess there are many such places in Canada that we wouldn’t have heard of. This is a really comprehensive list of places to eat around the area, it’s always helpful to put together the best restaurants for people who are visiting that place. I always try to research about the best places to try the local food at before I visit a city.
