Travel Essentials: CIBC Foreign Cash Online

March 3, 2016

This post is sponsored by CIBC. As always, all reviews and opinions are entirely my own.

As you all know, I spend A LOT of time at Toronto Pearson International Airport. Which means I’m constantly wandering around the terminals trying to keep myself entertained. Yes, I could plop down and work like a good travel writer, buuuut I’m way too curious for my own good: the urge to explore outweighs the voice of reason every time. Thankfully, Pearson has upped their game and introduced a ton of new restos and businesses to make our airport and travel experiences a lot more pleasant — yeay! On a recent stroll through Terminal 1, a digital CIBC Foreign Cash Online ad caught my eye…

Order cash online and have it delivered?! Um, yes please! I’m always looking for ways to shrink my travel to-do list — you know, the never-ending and often daunting pre-flight tasks ranging from immunizations to arranging visas — so I had to find out more about CIBC’s service ASAP. Naturally, I headed to their website to do some digging. And what I discovered is about to make travelling a whole lot easier for many of us: a one-stop shop for foreign exchange. Cue angel music…You can now safely and securely order foreign cash online and pick it up at a branch, have it delivered to your home almost anywhere in Canada OR pick it up at Pearson Terminal 1!! Not a CIBC client? No worries, they’ve got your back: the service is also avail for non-CIBC clients (just visit cibc.com/foreigncash for deets).

Why am I so excited about CIBC Foreign Cash Online? The service scratches one big task off my travel to-do list and saves me time and money! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve showed up at a bank only to discover they don’t have the foreign currency I need (or enough of it). Bouncing from branch to branch and then ending up at those expensive foreign exchange kiosks is always a nightmare so this new service is basically a godsend. Oh, and CIBC Foreign Cash Online offers up to 75 foreign currencies representing over 90 countries across the globe. Everything from the Euro and US Dollar to the Turkish Lira and South African Rand – woot!

Did I mention the service is FREE?! Yup, no additional charges for delivery (home delivery only avail in Canada) and no upfront fees (obvi standard foreign exchange fees still apply and the purchase counts towards your transaction limit). But in my opinion, the biggest draw of using CIBC Foreign Cash Online is the amount of time I’ll save. I can now order the currency from the comfort of my own home and have it delivered to my doorstep within 3 business days — no more bank hops prior to my travels. Here’s how it works…

CIBC Clients

  1. Log in to CIBC online banking
  2. Select “order foreign cash” from the left navigation pane
  3. Choose the currency and amount you need
  4. Confirm the exchange rate and decide how you want to receive the cash: at a CIBC branch, at Pearson Terminal 1 OR delivered to your home in Canada via reputable courier

Non-CIBC Clients

  1. Visit cibc.com/foreigncash
  2. Click “order now”
  3. Indicate that you are not a CIBC customer
  4. Confirm the exchange rate on the CIBC Foreign Exchange site and decide how you want to receive the cash: at a CIBC branch, at Pearson Terminal 1 OR delivered to your home in Canada via reputable courier

That’s it! Easy, secure and you’ll always know exactly how much travel money you’re purchasing and the exchange rate you’ll receive — no surprises! You can even track the status of your order. And unlike some other financial institutions and foreign currency providers, CIBC updates their FX rates regularly so you get accurate and transparent pricing. Yes, yes, yes! I love when businesses solve my problems and make life easier: one less task to worry about. Hope CIBC Foreign Cash Online™ alleviates some of your travel stress in the near future!

That’s happened to me too! I’m at my bank branch and they don’t have enough funds for me so I have to trek to different branches in the city. This sounds like a fantastic service!

Right?! It’s my constant travel dilemma. Esp with less commonly used currencies. Can’t believe they’re not charging for the service — pretty amaze!

Thanks for sharing! I always find myself running around last minute trying to get enough currency for my trips. I usually have to go to multiple branches just to get enough Euro’s or British Pounds. Now I can have it delivered to me.
