5 Things To Do This Fall In Milton, Ontario

October 15, 2019

Oh that fall bucket list — pumpkin patches, wagon rides, fall colours, warm apple cider, farm visits etc. etc. etc. I don’t know about you guys, but I do my very best to squeeze in as many fall activities as I can during the ephemeral season. And each year I try to explore a different region — often inspired by your recommendations or press releases that end up in my inbox. This year it was the latter: I saw an email with the subject line “Pumpkins After Dark” and knew it was something I just had to experience. So, wrapped in the coziest of scarves and with toddler in tow, I went on a fall weekend getaway to Milton in partnership with Attractions Ontario. The itinerary was one that surprised me and checked off a lot of our fall bucket list so I thought I’d share it and hopefully inspire you to visit Milton this fall…

5 Things To Do This Fall In Milton

1. Pumpkins After Dark

5,000 hand-carved pumpkins illuminated at night. Need I say more? Pumpkins After Dark is a monsterpiece!

As we walked around Country Heritage Park with my toddler, I couldn’t believe my eyes — 3D carvings, sculptures, unbelievably detailed jack-o-lanterns all dotted the outdoor trail and whisked us to a magical realm. Yup, these guys created something special…

Although some of their creations are creepy, the general experience is very family-friendly (our little guy wasn’t afraid) so don’t hesitate if you’re thinking of taking the kids. Just make sure to arrive early as the line gets increasingly longer throughout the night. We got there just before they opened at 7:30 pm and didn’t experience any delays getting in. Parking is also free and available onsite!

2. Fall Colours At Kelso Conservation Area

Hidden gem alert: did you know you can take a $5 chairlift to see the views and fall foliage at Kelso Conservation Area during the entire month of October?! I did NOT…

To be honest, it’s one of those beautiful landscapes we always drive by and never really knew how to access until this trip. I’m happy to report that the conservation area is actually really easy to navigate and accessible (even with a toddler). There’s plenty of parking, the chairlift ride is scenic and the views/hikes when you reach the top are jaw-dropping! Trust me, this is a spot you don’t want to miss this fall.

Oh, and make sure to explore the other parts of the conservation area (there’s more than 29 km of scenic trails) and check out their special events too! We were there during their Hops and Harvest Festival which was quite possibly the cutest fall fest I’ve ever been to…

3. Fall Glamping At Toronto West KOA

I’m all about cozy cabins in the fall so I really loved our stay at Toronto West KOA. They have everything from rustic cabins to RV spots, but we decided to stay in a Deluxe Cabin (#81) which has two rooms, a kitchen and a bathroom.

The staff are super sweet and our cabin was spotless. One thing to flag: the campground is right beside Highway 401 so if you’re a light sleeper, the noise may be a concern. It didn’t bother us, but we live in a condo downtown so we are used to the white noise!

If you stay at Toronto West KOA and are looking for a nice dinner spot nearby, I highly recommend Risposta Bistro which is about a 7 min drive. Expect some incred Italian dishes…

Oh and The Trail Eatery is a local favourite for breakfast. After visiting with my family, I can see why. Cozy, affordable and delish!

4. Mountsberg’s Spooktacular Halloween

Looking for a quieter, more relaxed fall experience? I recommend heading to Mountsberg Park. We loved exploring the trails and saying hello to the horses and bison that live in the conservation area…

If you have kids, you’ll also want to check out their Spooktacular Halloween activities (weekends in October). There’s a hay play area, face painting, spooky haunted barn (recommended for kids 5 and up, but my 2.5-year-old loved it), fall wagon rides and a raptor show!

5. Pumpkin Patch & Corn Maze At Springridge Farm

The Harvest Festival (Sept 21-Oct 27th) at this family farm is pretty special. Think: wagon rides, an animal barn, professional puppet shows, pony rides and even a 5-acre corn trail…

You’ll want to grab lunch onsite so you can make it a full-day outing. And don’t forget to grab a pumpkin on your way out! It’s the perfect souvenir from your fall road trip (well, that or some of their famous tarts/pies)…

However you choose to spend your time this fall, I really hope you get out and enjoy the vibrant colours, delicious flavours and family time. Milton proved to us that they know how to celebrate the season so hopefully this post inspires you to visit and experience it yourselves!
