Quaker Helps Canadian Children Stay Warm #JoyOfWarmth

November 7, 2018

Have you ever stepped outside and been caught off guard by frigid temps? Shoulders tense up, muscles begin to quiver, skin crawls with pins and needles — it’s one of the worst sensations I’ve ever experienced. Now imagine this being your reality as a child on a daily basis. Having immigrated to Canada when I was eight, I know just how ill-prepared many families are for the harsh winters we face here. But I was one of the fortunate kids: my parents could afford to buy gear that kept me warm. Sadly this isn’t the case for thousands of Canadians — warm winter clothing often comes second to providing the basics for their families. Which means a lot of children spend the season battling bone-chilling temps…

I actually can’t wrap my head around the stats: for one in five Canadian families, proper winter clothing has been a luxury they can’t afford (source: Angus Reid Institute). ONE IN FIVE. Baahh we NEED to change this. Everyone should have access to a winter coat. I can’t even begin to imagine what it would be like if Little L didn’t have one. That’s why I’m so proud to be involved in a Quaker campaign that’s helping kids feel the #JoyOfWarmth. Yup, the Quaker® brand is working with Boys and Girls Clubs in Canada to provide new winter coats to children in need! YEAYYYYY. I love it when big brands step up and make a real difference in people’s lives.

You see, Quaker® Oats has been preparing Canadians to face the day for generations via their amaze oatmeal (since 1902 to be exact), but they recognize that being warm on the inside is not enough if you’re freezing on the outside so they’re tackling the issue two ways: 1) by giving new coats to families in need who have been identified by The Boys and Girls Clubs in Canada and 2) by providing up to 100 000 bowls of warm oatmeal at Boys and Girls Club locations in Canada when you share the hashtag #JoyOfWarmth and tag @QuakerCanada on your public Facebook, Twitter or Instagram profile! You guys know I love using social media to make a difference so let’s all share, share, share and make an impact together because every child deserves to experience the joy of warmth and outdoor play this winter.

This post was sponsored by Quaker® so we could spread the word about the amazing #JoyOfWarmth initiative. As always, opinions are my own and I’m so proud to back a brand that is truly making a difference in our local communities. For more information on how the Quaker® brand is working with Boys and Girls Clubs in Canada, visit QuakerOats.ca/JoyOfWarmth.

It’s so true! And kids grow up so fast so most of their clothing is all gently used! Such a great way to help out the needed without spending a dime!
